The Teacher Forum Scholarship is awarded to seniors who plan to attend a four year college and major in education. This year, four seniors from the graduating class of 2016 are being awarded a $2000 Teacher Forum Scholarship.
Kierra Douglas, Seneca High School, is planning to attend Southern Wesleyan University and major in Music Education. Kierra is an A/B Honor Roll student (7th – 12th) and a High Honor Graduate. She has served as Senator of the Student Government and as Section-Leader for the Honors Chorale and Madrigals. Her extra-curricular activities include the National Honors Society, Beta Club, Honors Chorale and the Madrigals.
Noah Powell, Tamassee-Salem High School, plans to attend Presbyterian College and major in Social Studies. He is an A/B Honor Roll Student (9th – 12th) and a DAR Good Citizen Award winner. Noah has served as Student Body President, Beta Club Vice-President, and captain of the Production Club. His extra-curricular activities include Student Council, Beta Club and the Production Club.
Tommy “TJ” Galloway, Walhalla High School, plans to attend Anderson University and major in Special Education. TJ is a member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Beta Club and Mu Alpha Theta. TJ is also a Skills USA State Champion, and a DAR Good Citizen Award winner. He has served as the Hamilton Career Center Skills USA Chaplain and attended Palmetto Boys State where he was invited to return as a counselor.
Along with his extra-curricular activities that include Varsity Football, and the Drama & Skit Team at his church, TJ also serves as assistant coach of the special needs athletic team, known as The Angels, and volunteers at the Walhalla Civic Auditorium.
Kelsey Ramey, West-Oak High School, is planning to attend Southern Wesleyan University and major in mathematics. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club. Kelsey was the Rotary Youth Leadership Award winner in 2014 and a 3 year Academic Letterman. She has served as both President and on the Board of Directors for the Interact Club, as Senior Class Vice-President, and as Captain for Varsity Tennis, Basketball and Softball. Kelsey’s extra-curricular activities include Varsity Tennis, Varsity Basketball (4 years), Varsity Softball (4 years), Peer Mediation and Tutoring, Earth Warriors, Interact Club, and Basketball Official for Upward.
These seniors will be recognized at the School Board meeting on May 16, 2016, as well as on Awards Day at their high school. Congratulations!
Since its inception in 2010-2011, a total of twenty two Oconee County seniors have been awarded a Teacher Forum Scholarship.
