Aubree Davis, a 5th grader at Fair-Oak Elementary school, was named the Elementary Division winner of the South Carolina Art Education Association (SCAEA) Youth Art Month Show.  Aubree’s acrylic painting entitled “Donkey” was awarded 1st place out of the eight elementary finalists from across the state. Her piece was also awarded 1st place from among 75 elementary entries in the western region, qualifying her for the state show.

Mr. Stan DuBose, the art teacher at Fair-Oak elementary school, said, “Aubree is a wonderful art student who always tries her best and takes the time to let her artistic talent shine though. As a teacher, I was delighted and honored that one of my many talented students was recognized by the SCAEA for their artistic talent.

The South Carolina Art Education Association is a chapter of the National Art Education Association (NAEA).  It’s mission is to advance visual arts education to fulfill human potential and promote global understanding. Each March, SCAEA hosts Youth Art Month (YAM),  a celebration of the visual arts among South Carolina students. Each of the four SCAEA geographic regions host a Youth Art Month Show.  Winners from the regional shows are entered into the State YAM Show.   This year, the state show was juried by Tom Richard, who is a Professor of Art at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He has had more than 50 solo exhibitions of his work as well as have been included in over 100 national juried and invitational exhibitions.
